I'm already halfway through assembling the 1:25 XJ220 I got for X-mas and I just discovered that the front suspension kingpins are missing from the kit. I'm gonna have to glue the wheels on and they wont be able to turn! >:(

I'm sorry but this made me laugh more than i care to admit. Can't you jerry rig it?

Who makes it? Strangely enough, you might not be the only person with this problem, and/or there may be a fix that could require some engineering.

It's an AMT model.

It's not just a dowel. It's supposed to have sort of a nail head and then some sort of clip at the other end to hold the wheel on. Sort of like this:

check this? If the pieces are missing you may have to call or write and ask for replacements. If it says so in the instructions, I have done that and got replacement pieces.

The instructions for this kit are a hoot! The front suspension instructions are as follows:

"Press the AXLE PINS into the KING PINS and secure with a small strip of tape. Do not cement or get paint on the pins or in the holes."

Translation - if you want this model to roll and probably fall apart after assembly don't use glue.

Chassis Assembly

"Before proceding (sic), we recommend test fitting the FRONT SUSPENSION ASSEMBLY. It may be necessary to enlarge the wheel well openings slightly for ease of assembly. Use a file of hobby knife."

Translation - we screwed up the wheel well opening in the manufacturing process.

Wheel Assembly

"Use a pencil to hold the AXLES in place and cement the ASSEMBLED FRONT WHEEL onto the AXLES."

Translation - It is impossible to do this because the hole in the wheel is square and will not fit the round pin unless you enlarge it. The result would probably be a broken pin and it will never roll.

So I enlarged the wheel well opening, glued the axle pins in place, rounded and enlarged the hole in the wheel so that it would accept the pin, and used glue throughout the assembly. Here is a pic of the wheels, axle pins and king pins. Note that the disc brake is chrome (which should be dull-coted according to the instructions) but will never be seen unless you pick up the model and specifically look inside the wheel from the back. Oh, and I did get the engine assembled too! Thanks for looking!

Hmm. Can you give me exact dimensions? Are those slots towards the right side there for a reason, or just plastic molding? I understand the clip slots on the wheel-side.

That's actually a Lego piece pictured but it's similar to the ones I'm missing. It's about half a Cm long, and no wider than the plastic framework that model parts are molded into.

I mean, figure how long exactly it needs to be, like in .001's or so, diameter, the location of the rings, etc.

I realize you don't have the one in the model, but take a pictures of the instructions. Measure where it is placed on the model, and get back to me. I'll see what I can do. It doesn't look like it'd be that big of an issue to make. I can probably make that out of aluminum, nylon, or steel. I'd bet aluminum or nylon, personally.
